A one hundred shilling whisky

A 40 year old Speyside Single Malt Whisky to be offered for sale by Aldi in December.

Forty years ago in 1971, two events, amongst many, were taking place. Firstly, we all of course remember Edward Heath’s Government formally abolishing our beloved Shillings’ half crowns and six pence’s for our current and more European style currency and secondly, perhaps not so well known, was at the same time a distillery in Scotland had started the maturing process of a very special whisky. This process included  maturing the whisky in European oak sherry casks which was to last forty years and eventually emerge, I can vouch as a rather nice Single malt whisky.

Now Aldi the big convenience store is giving its customers the chance to get hold of a very high quality luxury product for a very low price. In fact, a snip at £49.99 per bottle or for those of you who still work in old money, just a hundred shillings. Aldi are expecting massive demand for such an amazing deal, especially as many single malt whiskies of this age usually sell in excess of £300.   It is also to be presented in a very nice decanter and box, so makes the ideal gift.

Yes, you may have to spend some time queuing on a cold December morning along with many others to be in with a chance and with only 3000 bottles being distributed amongst the 450 stores, it is going to be a challenge so there’s no guarantee you will be lucky enough to acquire one. But if you do bag a bottle, pour a glass, sit back and enjoy, you will not be disappointed.

They say life begins at 40, well sadly for this bonny lass, I foresee it will be a relatively short life if I manage to get one.
